What is a Land Co-Op?
A Land Co-op, or Land Cooperative, is a community-based model where individuals collectively own and manage land for various purposes, such as housing, recreation, or development. This approach encourages collaboration and shared responsibility among members.
Key Features:
Collective Ownership: Members pool resources to buy and maintain land, making it more affordable and accessible.
Democratic Governance: Decisions about the land are made together, giving everyone a voice in how it’s used.
Sustainability: Many Land Co-ops focus on eco-friendly practices, promoting environmental health and long-term viability.
Community Building: Working together fosters strong relationships and a sense of belonging among members.
Diverse Uses: Land Co-ops can serve various purposes, from community gardens to affordable housing and conservation efforts.
Educational Opportunities: Members often have access to workshops and training on sustainable practices and land management.
Benefits of Joining:
Affordability: Shared costs make land ownership more accessible.
Empowerment: Members have a say in decisions, fostering a sense of ownership.
Networking: Connect with like-minded individuals for support and collaboration.
Why the ForestBrook Co-op is Different:
ForestBrook Land Co-op stands out from traditional models by focusing on collective ownership and community-driven growth. While many co-ops may prioritize agricultural or conservation efforts, this model specifically aims to acquire land for recreational purposes and potential development, driven by the collective decisions of its members. The monthly fee structure ensures that all members contribute to the co-op's growth, making it a sustainable and inclusive way to expand land ownership and enhance community resources.
Join the Co-op
Individuals can become members by purchasing units, which grant ownership in the co-op. Each member pays a monthly contribution of $20 to support land acquisitions, maintenance and management.
Participate in Decision-Making
Members attend community virtual meetings to discuss and vote on potential land purchases and development projects, ensuring everyone has a say in the co-op's direction.
Enjoy and Contribute
Members can use the acquired land for recreational activities and community events, while also sharing ideas for future developments, fostering collaboration and a sense of ownership.
Is it really $1?
Yes, for just $1, you can purchase one unit of ownership in the company that holds the land. You have the option to buy multiple units to increase your share of ownership and enhance your stake in the co-op.
There is also a discount for buying bulk units.
What are units?
Units represent partial ownership in the company that owns the land, similar to shares.
Can I use the land?
Yes, you can use the land for recreational activities. We kindly ask that you notify us of your plans so the community is informed. Please ensure that your use of the land complies with all local regulations.
Where is the land located?
We are considering the idea of acquiring over 100 acres of land in Northern Arizona, with the hope of securing immediate road access. We also plan to explore the possibility of purchasing plots of land in other states, and we encourage community input on these ideas through voting.
What is the monthly contribution?
All community members contribute $20 monthly, which helps cover management and operational expenses.
Can I re-sell or transfer my ownership units?
Yes, you can resell or transfer your units, which represent ownership in the company that holds the land. Since there is no active market, you'll need to find your own buyers. You may also consider selling your units to fellow community members.

Will the Co-Op buy more land?
Hopefully we can purchase more land if we pool enough resources.
